Real Madrid will not move for David de Gea in January as Florentino Perez hints keeper could sign new Manchester United contract
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has ruled out a January move for David de Gea and hinted that he expects the goalkeeper to sign a new deal at Manchester United. De Gea has not started any of the club's six matches this season and was set for a move to Madrid, only for it to dramatically collapse on deadline day.
When an offer was finally made and accepted, paperwork was not filed in time to complete the move - and the club's chief has now ruled out making another bid when the transfer window reopens
Asked by Spanish radio Cadena Cope if he would try to sign him in January he said: ‘No definitely not,' and when pushed on what Madrid's next move might be he added: 'We are not contemplating that he comes next year.
'He is there and we have three very good goalkeepers. We have not told him not to sign (a new deal). He has to do what is best for his career. It’s very difficult that he does nothing for a year. When people say: “wait for a year and then he comes free” that has never happened with any big player.’
