For the fifth consecutive year the company Departamento de Internet (DI) has published a ranking of the best websites of teams competing in the UEFA Champions League. In this edition, FC Barcelona has the best online platform of the 32 teams involved in the 2015/16 Champions League, ahead of websites from teams like Arsenal, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. This year Barça scored 97 out of 100, giving them their second such distinction after winning in the 2012/13. The study underlines the importance of having a corporate website which is up to the best competition in European football.

The ranking of the websites of the participating teams in the UEFA Champions League is established objectively according to criteria such as design, multimedia elements, adaptability on different devices, page structure and navigation, language and writing, the ease of buying tickets, the use of social networks, and user services.

Each of the variables analysed have a relative importance in the final assessment, represented by a specific percentage, with 100 as the highest score.

This week, FC Barcelona has passed the milestone of 20 million followers of its official Instagram account (@fcbarcelona), making it the first club or competition to achieve the feat. As it continues to lead the world on social networks, Barça is top on Instagram, comfortably ahead of Real Madrid (18 million) and the NBA (nearly 10 million).

FC Barcelona has consolidated its position in 2015, with 14.3 million new users in just nine months. The Instagram account was launched on 15 January 2013 with a photo of the squad that season, and since then over 5,900 images and videos has been posted. The photos of the Champions League Final in Berlin have been the most popular so far, accumulating a massive 700,000 ‘likes’.

FCB are 27th overall on Instagram, in a list largely dominated by American singers and celebrities. But there are also four FC Barcelona players in the Top 100: Neymar (@Neymarjr) is the leading sportsperson with 32 million followers, while Leo Messi (@leoMessi) has 25 million, Dani Alves (@Dani2dois) has 7 million and Andrés Iniesta (@andresiniesta8) has over 6 million.

The club also has an official account for the other sports teams (@FCBseccions), which focuses on the activities of the basketball, handball, roller hockey and futsal teams.

FC Barcelona continues to blow away the opposition on social networks. Just a few days ago, the club announced that it has over 200 million different followers on all networks, a figure no other sports club can boast. It has over 40 different accounts on twelve different channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LINE, YouTube, Daily motion, Vine, Sina Weibo, Tencent Weibo, WeChat).

Rafa Benítez's men stay at the head of Group A, where they remain neck and neck with a Paris Saint-Germain side also on six points.

• Pressing high up the pitch and recovering possession swiftly, Real Madrid carved out regular attacks on their opponents' area in the opening period and Cristiano was close to putting his team in front a minute after the quarter-hour mark. The Portuguese star began the move with a throw-in for Karim Benzema in behind the Swedes' defence. The Frenchman showed majestic skill to swivel on a sixpence and cut the ball back towards the penalty spot for Cristiano, who forced goalkeeper Johan Wiland into a fine stop.

• The chance proved a warning signal of what was to come: in the 29th minute, Mateo Kovacic launched a counter-attack with a superb pass to find Isco, and the Andalusian looked up to find an unmarked Cristiano with a left-footed ball through the legs of a Malmö defender. One on one with Wiland, the Portugal captain buried the opportunity expertly and overtook Raúl as the club's leading marksman in European competitions.

• The final ten minutes saw two individuals take centre stage: Cristiano and Wiland. The Real Madrid man was twice prevented from sealing the points by exceptional interventions from the Malmö custodian, first from a shot on the half-turn in the 80th minute, then five minutes later when in on goal. But with the clock reaching the 90, Cristiano ensured it was third time lucky. Lucas Vázquez crossed low, and the forward turned the ball into the net with a first-time, left-footed finish. He is now the club's all-time highest scorer, while Real Madrid remain top of their group and unbeaten in all competitions.

RONALDO

SERGIO RAMOS

His courage and strength made him the revelation of La Liga in the 2004/2005 season. He was then playing for Sevilla, where he had started his career at the youth academy. His qualities did not go unnoticed by Real Madrid who signed him that summer.   Since he arrived at Madrid, Ramos has been one of the key players in defense and has played both as a central defender and as a right-back. He has always led by example in terms of hard work, commitment and ambition and has been chosen as the captain of the team. His defensive abilities are complemented by his speed, his powerful shooting and his goal scoring instincts. His reliability in defense has made him a regular for Spain for whom he made his international debut at just 19. ISCO

Skill, pace and imagination are some of the qualities that make Isco a top quality midfielder. His precise passing and his dribbling thrilled La Liga and now belong to the Bernabéu.He led Málaga to the greatest period in their history, playing 35 goals in his first season and scoring 5 goals. In his second season, he improved on this and played 47 games and scored 12 goals (9 in La Liga and 3 in Europe).  He was instrumental in helping Málaga to reach the quarter finals of the Champions League and impressed everybody with his talent in the UEFA Under-21 Championship in Israel. JAMES RODRÍGUEZ

He is young but has a wealth of experience from spells in the Argentinian, Portuguese and French leagues.  He is a midfielder who can play on both wings and in the centre, and he plays with extraordinary imagination. He started his career in his home country in the ranks of Envigado FC before moving to Banfield in Argentina. He won the Europa League with Porto, three league titles with Portugal, and a Portuguese Cup. After a year with Monaco and a sensational performance at the World Cup, he signed with Real Madrid.He scored six times at the championships in Brazil and left behind wonder goals such as the volley against Uruguay, which was chosen as the goal of the tournament by FIFA.com users. He was without doubt key to Colombia reaching the quarter-finals for the first time in their history. He was named the man of the match in three of the five matches he played. 

LUKA MODRIC

Skill and organizational ability at the service of the Whites’ midfield. After starring in three different countries (Bosnia, Croatia and England) and in the European Championship, Luka Modric signed for Real Madrid in August 2012, thus reaching the peak of his football career.   The Croatian has always had outstanding vision which allows him to play in several different positions. He started as an attacking midfielder who could play the final ball to forwards but in recent years he has played further back. He now helps out more with defensive tasks and plays the ball out from the back to begin the attack. He’s a versatile player who provides plenty of options for the team.At the age of 18, Luka was named the best player in the Bosnian First Division and was awarded the same title in 2007 in Croatia. He continued his career in the Premier League where he became Tottenham’s record signing and the key player in their midfield. In his four seasons at Spurs, he made 24 assists and scored 13 goals, and earned a deserved reputation as a creative and unselfish midfielder who always aims to help his team. 

KARIM BENZEMA

A precocious talent and widely considered to be one of best all-round forwards in the world, Benzema can make his own chances, finish clinically in the area and make assists for his teammates. He always places his talents at the service of the team.   His game is based on power and movement on both wings, skill on the ball and deadly finishing in the last few metres of the pitch. From the beginning of his career at Olympique Lyonnais it was obvious that he would be a great player. During his spell at the French club he collected several collective and individual honours such as the Bravo Award in 2008. It was therefore no surprise that Real Madrid did not think twice about recruiting such a special talent and signed him the following summer. With loads of experience at the top level under his belt, Benzema lived out one of his dreams by getting to wear the same jersey as his idol, Ronaldo Nazario. The French striker has already won a lot of titles with Real Madrid; including the Champions League, a competition in which he has an impressive goals-per-game average. 

GARETH BALE

When speed and skill come together, the result is called Gareth Bale. Gareth is a very complete midfielder and has a lethal weapon in his left foot. He is the first Welshman to play for Real Madrid who he joined after being named the PFA Player’s Player of the Year in the Premier League in two of the last three years (2010-11 and 2012-13), and left a lasting influence at Tottenham Hotspur.   The Welshman showed his promise at a very early age. He made his debut for Southampton and the Welsh national team at the end of the 2005-06 season at the age of just 16. At the age of 17, he became the youngest player in history to score a goal for his national team. He progressed so quickly that in 2007 he made the move to a major club like Tottenham Hotspur where he made a huge impact due to his direct style of play.After scoring 26 goals in 44 matches last season, Bale joined Real Madrid in September 2013. In Madrid he has been reunited with Luka Modric, his old teammate at Spurs and has brought his attacking potential to a Madrid team that with Cristiano Ronaldo was already a major force. 

MARCELO

Marcelo started playing five-a-side football at the age of 9 and by 13 he was at Fluminense. He comes from quite a poor family and almost had to leave the football academy because he couldn’t afford to pay for the bus to take him to training. Nevertheless, his determination and his ability made him fight for what he loved and he was best at: football.  Marcelo came to Europe when he was 18 having already triumphed in Brazil. He is a very fast, attacking full-back who has worked hard since his arrival to take the opportunities that his coaches have given him to secure a place in the first team.  In 2006, he made his debut for Brazil against Wales and made his mark immediately. He scored a fantastic goal which showed all of his best features as a footballer. Strength and speed in defense, great skill on the ball and a constant attacking threat on the left wing.
